Medical Probe with Catheter System Avoids Sensitive Tissue Structures
A medical probe has been designed to access target sites that cannot be accessed via a straight line route without interfering with sensitive tissue structures. The device works using a multiple tube catheter system in which the distal portion of the outer tube is shaped in such a way to deflect the inner tube in a different direction. This allows the medical probe to be directed around sensitive structures. The invention reduces the need for invasive procedures or expensive image guidance.

Access Target Sites without Expensive Image Guidance
Access to certain areas of the body via minimally invasive methods (such as the brain, heart, or tumors) is often restricted by the presence of sensitive structures between the insertion and target sites. When these sites cannot be accessed easily, expensive image guidance or more invasive procedures are required to access the target site. These more advanced procedures increase the risk and cost to the patient. As such, a probe cannot access the target sites via a straight line route. A need exists for a simple, inexpensive manner of gaining access to target biological sites that cannot be accessed by traditional medical probes.
